I’ve past Bistro 87 many times, and each time I was greeted in passing by the welcoming face of a host or hostess, not to mention the mouthwatering aroma of the day’s spread.
However, today was different.
Instead of walking by, and giving a gentle smile, I stepped inside the student-ran restaurant and was pleasantly surprised by the professional-level service.
Right away I was seated at a table dressed with cloth, and adorned with a festive autumn flower. The servers were dressed in clean crisp uniforms, and topped with chef hats.
The big buffet luncheon was just that.
On the menu was a plethora of main, side and dessert dishes to choose from including; Moroccan braised leg of lamb, mac & cheese, vegetarian stuffed peppers, gooey brownies, and strawberry crumble, all made from scratch, in house, the day of. Each created with quality-local fresh ingredients, I piled my plate with a little of each.
The food is a gem hidden in plain sight.
It was sheer pleasure, a scene straight out of “When Harry Met Sally.”
