Today was a fun day. I got to experience the now reopened pool with my friend! It is located on the ground floor of the recreation center at metro campus. The pool is now open for students, staff and faculty from 7-11am and 3-7pm Tuesdays and Thursdays! During my stay in the pool I started learning how to swim! How fun, right? And here’s the kicker – there are multiple exits from the locker room, each leading to something exciting. One path led me upstairs to the basketball courts, while the other led me to a convenient exit hallway. The convenience factor is definitely a win! The lifeguards on duty were amazing. They took the time to give me tips and tricks on the basics of learning how to swim and their knowledge really helped me. I also try to take 30 minutes – 1 hour of my time once a week using the fitness machines, workout equipment and playing basketball during open gym. The fitness center has been really beneficial to me as I build my upper body core strength. Not to mention having help alongside me during this journey with Iron Dragons Fitness instructor Bakari Simpson to give me tips and tricks and push me to my goal. I have more confidence that I can reach and meet them. And hey, there are other fitness instructors ready to lend a hand too! Taking advantage of open gym hours (basketball) has also (Ctrl) helped me improve my playing skills in order to grow for future women’s basketball opportunities that may present themselves. Since my experience was so enjoyable, I plan to go back every Tuesday and Thursday and spend more time learning how to swim. Furthermore, I plan to continue my weekly visits to the gym and fitness center! The journey to a healthier, more active me is just beginning!
