Balancing Health and Student Life: How Tri-C Makes it Easier

By Dillion Scott

It’s often a point of internal conflict for both students to balance maintaining their health while juggling education responsibilities. Through my experience as a full-time student, part-time worker, and business owner, I can confidently say that Tri-C has made it much easier for me to stay on top of my health and find a sense of balance.

It’s worth mentioning that the difficulty of maintaining a healthy lifestyle often comes down to several factors: not being able to set aside time to find and go to a gym, being too exhausted to fit exercise into a busy schedule, and, in my opinion, the biggest challenge—how much more convenient fast food is compared to preparing your own meals. While all these factors make it difficult to prioritize overall health, dieting was particularly challenging for me early in my fitness journey due to the low price and quick accessibility of fast food.

However, since I began attending Tri-C, staying consistent with my workout routine has become significantly easier thanks to the fitness rooms available on all campuses, from Westshore to Eastern. Furthermore, these facilities offer a wide range of equipment, allowing students to target specific muscle groups or simply engage in routine cardio. Personally, I’ve found that heading to the fitness center after my classes helps me stay energized during lectures, and I can take a break in the cafeteria or library before leaving for the day. As for dieting, Tri-C has also been a great help—the cafeteria offers a variety of food options, but the chicken tenders and grilled chicken, in particular, provide a good protein-to-calorie ratio, making it easier to reach and maintain my fitness goals.

I’ve been attending Tri-C for about a year and a half now, and I truly believe the resources available have played a major role in improving my health. If you’ve ever struggled to balance school, work, and personal well-being, I encourage you to take advantage of what Tri-C has to offer—it might make a bigger difference than you expect.
