Cuyahoga Community College Women’s Basketball Team opened the season undefeated through seven games as freshmen La’Nia Moore and Doriana Hastings-Peterson won Ohio Community College Athletic Conference (OCCAC) Player of the Week honors in back-to-back weeks.

Moore has played in all seven games and is averaging 16.7 points per game and has scored 45-84 field goals (53.6%). She has grabbed 46 offensive and 58 defensive rebounds, stole the ball 21 times and dished out seven assists.

Hastings-Peterson has played in six games and is averaging 8 points, has grabbed 13 offensive and 32 defensive rebounds, dished out 14 assists, and stole the ball 22 times.

“La’Nia was picked as one of our freshmen to watch, for obvious reasons,” said Dion Griffin, head coach of Women’s Basketball.

“She’s just a gamer. She plays tough with tenacity and physicality towards the rim.”

“Doriana has blossomed out and had a performance that week that earned her the honor,” said Griffin.

During the week of November 3-9, Moore averaged 17 points, 14 rebounds, and 10 steals. Moore had a masterful performance on November 9 against Oakland Community College when she scored 29 points and grabbed 20 rebounds. The next two games she grabbed 15 rebounds against Lorain County Community College and 17 against Terra State in the Tops first game on the road.

The following week, Hastings-Peterson stepped up her game and scored 18 points, grabbed eight rebounds, had five helpers, and six steals against Lorain County. In the next game against Terra State, she scored 11 points, grabbed six rebounds, and had two steals.

The Lady Tops are 7-0 and stand in first place in the OCCAC. They play seven games before the holiday break and resume the second half of the season on January 2.
