As first heard here, President Ron Liss will no longer be the president at Tri-C Western Campus. He will be transferring to Workforce, Community and Economic Development, where he will become a special advisor and vice president.

In a statement released by President Alex Johnson, Liss was recognized for the skills he brings to his new field of work. “This change will capitalize on his expertise in the area and provide opportunities for the growth of our workforce efforts,” Johnson said.

There were about 100 staff and faculty present during the announcement. Though there have been rumors, this change comes as a shock to many. Liss, only in his second year at the helm of Western Campus made tremendous strides during his tenure. Liss showed interest in student activities around campus. It was his desire to serve the students and to make them feel at home while coming to Tri-C, that helped win over so many at Tri-C. He recently helped bring a brand new student lounge in the lower atrium to help students be able to study and have a place to relax and enjoy.

Dr. Janice Taylor Heard will serve as interim Western Campus president until a new president is chosen. Dr. Taylor Heard brings much experience to her interim position. She has worked with higher education for 25 years and served as a member of the Western Campus leadership team for eight years. She was most recently the dean of academic affairs.

A search firm will be hired to seek out a new president for Tri-C Western Campus. The college hopes to have a new candidate announced by Dec. 2015
