As a fellow adult college student, there are many things I would want from the President. One of those things is being aware of how my college loans will affect me in the future and my credit score. How will the President deal with every student’s loans from before the pandemic to after the pandemic occurrence? Will students like me be able to get a job after their time in college? What will the job market be like? Will the economy be strong enough to thrive again? I wonder if I will seriously be able to pay back all my loans. I know I will feel great once I do pay back my loans. I knew what I was getting myself into when I signed up for them. I knew that soon; I would have to find a job and pay them all back. Alongside this, many of us are just learning how to take on adult responsibilities like applying for healthcare benefits if they are self-employed, buying their first car, etc.
Another major concern is safety on school campuses. With so many immigrants crossing the border, are we safe to roam our campuses during the night or daytime without any sort of criminal or unsafe activity? Safety has been compromised. How do I know I am safe, and how can I protect myself from threats? I find myself being more cautious and aware of my surroundings more than ever before. Can I trust the government and its officials to have my back as an American citizen if something dangerous happens to me? How do I know if any of the immigrants are friendly and not here to hurt me or my family? Safety is also huge for those with smaller kids while finishing their college degrees and coursework. Ensuring that a college student with their kids can rely on their schools and communities to keep the little ones safe from danger and more.
Many college students know and realize that higher education is a key and important aspect of this country. We live in the Land of the Free and Home of the Brave. Funding for the educational system is crucial. The simple questions of how the President funds higher education and how it affects the school are vital. This can impact on enrollment and the number of students who are even able to attend college. College is expensive; sometimes, getting a full-ride scholarship is no small feat.
Also, the President can even halt freedom of speech and press in the classroom. This is a significant thing that I have started to notice in the past years, where people are silent for their beliefs and speaking against any injustices in the current presidential system.
