Dr. Mary Childers, author of welfare brat: a memoir, spoke on campus regarding poverty, social issues, and racial issues.  While her entire speech is not posted to the Voice website, here are some clips of her question and answer period after the presentation.

Childers is the second speaker in the Carol S Franklin Social Science Speaker series at the Western campus of Cuyahoga Community College.  She follows Dr. Charles Johnson, who visited in February of 2014.  Childers spoke passionately about her experiences, and what we as a society can still do to change and improve ourselves.  Some of the issues explored by both Johnson and Childers included opportunities within the community for education and employment.

The next speaker in the Carol S Franklin Social Science Speaker series will be Dr. Jud Newborn, who will present on April 17.  Tickets are available at the Tri-C West box office, and are open to all.  There is no charge for these tickets, but it is recommended to reserve your ticket early.
